This one is for you Sarah: Jane Jessen is bringing you a remake of her classic Gabriel Knight Sins of the Father this October. It will be available on GOG and Steam as well as the publisher Pheonix Online Studios. So get your tape ready for any passing cat, time to make a moustache. (Source Joystiq)
Nintendo’s other property: One of the under appreciated and weirder titles Pikmin is getting a short movie makeover and could even end up on the 3DS streaming service. It’s nice to see someone other than those ne’er do well plumbers and pokemon get some attention. (Source Joystiq)
First she gets kidnapped like 3000 times and now this: It would appear that Princess Peach is no end of trouble, in the “For the Glory” mode of Super Smash Brothers for the 3DS if you use the down+b power too fast you will be banned for a “cheat” of bringing an illegal item in to the game. Nintendo has been slapping players with one day bans when this happens. Nintendo has yet to address the issue. (Source Polygon)
Point and whaaaa: Paradigm is a point and click adventure that released possibly the most awesome trailer in awesome town for its Kickstarter campaign. Gene spliced sloths, sass talking mutants, sick disco beats this game has it all check out the trailer and if you like it check out their kickstarter. (Source Joystiq)
All it takes is one idea: Anyone who is watching gaming with a pulse and even some people outside of that have heard the news, Microsoft bought Mojang. Notch and team were paid 2.5 BILLION dollars, yes billion with a b. Microsoft have indicated they will continue to support cross platform capabilities and have no plans to change the direction while Notch will be taking his 1.4 billion dollar share and retiring from the industry siting the Phil Fish attacks as his inspiration for leaving the industry. You can read more of my analysis on this purchase here in yesterday’s editorial. (Source Joystiq here, here, and here and Polygon here, here, here and here)
For the opulently wealthy show off in your life: Did you think your new Xbox One or PS4 wasn’t blingy enough? Is bedazzling not ostentatious enough for you? Well now you can have gold encased PS4 or Xbox One made by Italian jeweler Gatti. No word on how well this big chunk of metal encasing your system helps with heat distribution but if there’s one thing the Italians are known for it’s subtle design choices. (Source Polygon)
Please Eddie: Well it would appear that Who Framed Roger Rabbit was in development a lot longer and in a much different form for quite some time. Test reel footage was released and showed a very interesting take on the beloved classic. (Source Polygon)
Well that was fast: On Tuesday Bungie unlocked the Vault of Glass their first raid instance, this is a multi-hour six person raid that will save your status and let you return should you need to do something like go to sleep or work at a day job. Within 14 hours the clan PrimeGuard had defeated the raid and received congratulations from the Bungie staff including a tweet to their clan account which closed by saying “Now, try it on hard.” OOOOH THEY GOT SERVED!
In other Destiny news the launch was reported as the largest new IP success story in the history of UK gaming and Activision indicated there were over 325 million units sold to customers. Not everything has been peaches and cream though, as more players are hitting the level cap there are more and more complaints about the game including the scarcity of public events and the rarity of legendary items. Legendary items still remain as is (to the point a joke account Legendary Engram was set up on twitter trolling the company) but Bungie have doubled the frequency of public events making them easier to come by.
Finally Destiny held the Combined Arms event this weekend in the Crucible a vehicle heavy event, get in there while there’s still time. (Source Joystiq here, here, here and here and Polygon here, here and here)
Catch the bastards: It just seems the Gamer controversy will not die but at least law enforcement are getting involved with the FBI launching an investigation in to the death threats against Sarkeesian to which Gamer Gate Enthusiasts promptly replied how this is a conspiracy and it’s all made up and the FBI are now in on the deal… Seriously, there’s no pleasing some people. Here’s hoping they catch the idiots who made these threats and charge them to the fullest extent of the law. (Source Polygon)
In Games I Will Never Play Because They Make Me Need To Pee With The Lights On News: The Evil Within Not Without, Shinji Mikami new master work in digital horror got a trailer at TGS, check it out:
In They Made What News: Dual shock inspired Air Jordans have been designed and they cost almost 1000 dollars, yes 1000 dollars. They also come with a branded HDMI cable to link the shoes together and carry them around at sneaker conventions… also news to me people go to sneaker conventions and carry around their shoes like trophies… yes people these are the end of days. ( Source Dualshockers)
Free Stuff Alert: Do you like mind numbing games where you click and appear to achieve nothing but some kind of soothing music and a brief flash? Then you are in luck, Origin are giving away copies of the new Bejewled 3 game on their Origin game platform. Log in and get yours now! (Source Joystiq)
Oh for goodness sakes: Because that’s what we needed, the anti-feminist faux feminists to chime in and tell me about gaming. Conservative think tank American Enterprise Institute has their “we got women too” hire Christina Hoff Sommers to come off the golf course and spend a few minutes talking to some gamers and Adam Baldwin long enough to form an opinion about something she never heard of before and tell us what the future of the gaming industry is and how feminists are ruining everything. Please, right wing shills for the Koch brothers, go away. (Source Polygon)
Insert Gravitas Here: Ubisoft have released another trailer for Assassin’s Creed Unity which ships this November this time with a focus on co-op game play which unfortunately aside from slow motion walking and drawing of big heavy things doesn’t really show any co-op game play. On top of this they have also released a new developer interview video which you can see here focusing on the unique play opportunities driven by player choice. (Source Ubisoft here and here)

In Further Pee With The Lights On News: This is shaping up to be one of the most awesome video games of the year, survival horror at its sci-fi purest Alien: Isolation shows why you should take precautions before going crawling around in vents. (Source Polygon)
Calptrap was lonely: Borderlands rejoins the co-op universe having jumped over to Valve’s Steamworks as their multiplayer host. With the death of Gamespy many developers are scrambling to find solutions one that apparently Valve has been all too ready to offer, now it’s time to get back in there and hunt some vault! (Source Joystiq)
Ummmm… Okay: In an interesting design choice control designer PDP released these preliminary designs on their new Mortal Kombat X controller… I guess it makes sense with the six buttons but if you are going this route why not just buy a game stick? (Source Joystiq)
In Development Hell News: Final Fantasy games have notoriously long development cycles, Final Fantasy 15 started development in 2006 and now 8 years later they are shaking it up removing director Nomura form the game. There is still no release date in sight but they have released a demo at TGS and a trailer honestly with Final Fantasy games I’ll start paying attention when they release a date though I have to say this trailer looks seeeeexy! (Source Joystiq)
Finally a cool use for kinnect and PS Camera: NBA 2K15 lets you insert yourself in to the game, in the tutorial video it only mentions the PS Camera by name but 2K indicate it uses first party camera drivers indicating that the Kinect may as well be able to use their fancy camera/IR blaster to be the next basketball star! (Source Joystiq)
California Dreaming: Only in California would they try to “buy back” toy guns and violent video games with free ice cream in trade for any returned toys or games all in support of the worthy cause of “Domestic Violence Awareness Month” how Call of Duty or cap guns have anything to do with domestic violence is beyond me but if you live in Marin County and really are in need of ice cream on October 4th go to the Novato police headquarters with that old copy of call of duty. (Source Joystiq)
Really Japan you do yourself no favours: Oneechanbara is a Japanese video game where you play a bikini clad sword wielding zombie killer. Apparently there is a sequel under development that was playable at the Tokyo Game Show and apparently this is how you play it:
Remember pinky out when firing that pistol: Sir Hammerlock makes a return appearance in this trailer for the upcoming Borderlands Pre-Sequel. It comes packed with the expected amount of sass and check we require of our Borderlands. BUTTSLAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!1! FOR REALSIES!
This should be… Interesting: Remember that weird open world horror comedy that was sort of like a mashup of Twin Peaks, X-Files and the fever dream of a pop culture addict called Deadly Premonition? If you aren’t familiar with it go out and try it now, not saying you’ll enjoy it, but DAMN is it weird. Hidetaka "Swery65" Suehiro the maker of this game are releasing a new game D4 (aka Dark Dreams Don't Die) for the Xbox One and it dropped on September 19th. Colour me curious.
The Day The Music Distribution Network Died: Harmonix is closing down its Rock Band Network, content will remain available but no further submissions will be accepted. Hopefully this isn’t the start of the end of support for the game that I still enjoy but here’s hope that we’ll get more Rockband for our new generation sooner or later. (Source Joystiq)
Lost In Space: Spacebase DF-9 is leaving the early access stage of development with one more update that will add tutorials and an in game goal system but far short of the initially announced goals. Will these be patched in later? Not sure, the game is fun (see my review here) and I’ll have to post a follow up when it leaves early access but a lot of what made it seem interesting will be missing and that has left fans none too pleased with Double Fine. (Source Joystiq)
Another player enters the game: It would appear Square Enix is creating its own streaming service to distribute games and use “virtual supercomputers” (also known as “The Cloud”) to create a back end to buffer their development cycle and not be tied to consoles. This is a great idea that Microsoft is already experimenting with in their Azure Cloud technology but this really doesn’t help people who have slow or unreliable internet connections. (Source Joystiq)
I’m sure Adam and Jamie appreciate the backup: Because people suck and would prefer aliens to have built the pyramids and for man to have never gone beyond low earth orbit people still to this day contend we never went to the moon. They use the excuse that the shadows “aren’t right”, the MythBusters crew already busted this but I’m sure they’ll be happy the crew at NVIDIA used their new Voxel Based Global Illumination to show how full of crap moan hoaxers are.
