Why use steam when you can build your own: First there was Origin, then their was Uplay and now Warner Brothers apparently is the next AAA vendor to construct its own alternative to Steam. Why pay the farmer for when you can build your own cow? (Source Escapist Magazine)
Good things come in small packages: EA had a bit of a snafu when they actually miniaturized Christian Kirksey embracing the failure they’ve turned it in to a fun little special event, this is how you turn a glitch in to a feature. Microsoft, take note. (Source Game Informer)

Holy Ship Date Batman: Delayed Batman Arkham Knight has finally been given a new release date. Get ready to don your cape and cowl June 2015. Enjoy the Silence: Microsoft will replace defective Xbox One consoles, infamous for their RROD hardware failures this does not appear to be nearly as wide spread but the quick response by Microsoft may be an attempt to get out ahead of this before it becomes a PR disaster. (Source Polygon)
Another month another upgrade: Microsoft have released another patch to their Xbox One platform adding the Media Player and various system improvements. Another Notch in the belt: Rumor has it that Monday Microsoft will announce the purchase of Mojang creators of Minecraft for 2 billion dollars (or more). Speculation is that Notch will not stay past a transitionary period and the wisdom of purchasing the IP which appears to be on every platform that draws power under the sun but we’ll see what Microsoft does with this blocky time sink. Despite his vociferous outcry against the sale of Oculus to Facebook it would appear from rumor that Notch himself instigated the discussion of selling the company. Why is hard to tell but after the last month in the gaming industry it may not be so hard after all. (Source Joystiq here, and here, as well as Polygon)
Consoles we don't need no stinking consoles: If rumors are to be believed Microsoft looks to be planning their own answer to Sony’s Playstation Next in the form of streaming games that will run in browsers something that may open up gameplay well beyond the console space. Supposedly it’s moved in to initial testing, no mention of money or even a public acknowledgement at this point though. (Source GameIndustry.biz
Just like Top Gear just minus the casual racism: RSI have released a new trailer for yet another for purchase vessel for their in development Star Citizen. This is a new racing vessel the Origin M50 is advertised in a pretty bang on parody of Top Gear called Galactic Gear including pompous sounding host. The ship itself looks slightly ridiculous given it’s a space ship and if it was to have atmospheric flight it’d probably fall to pieces, I mean really… three spoilers? The only thing missing from this trailer was a rich conservative white dude making Mexican and Asian jokes… and Stig. (Source RSI)
Tick tick tock this is the way I walk: During this past week’s apple launch event they announced their first phablet alongside a revised iPhone but most anticipated (short of an Apple branded smart TV set) is the iWatch a smart interface slaved to your iPhone allowing you to control and interact with it on the go. Three versions a sport, a standard and a luxury model are being displayed and EA has already said they will be looking at creating gaming “experiences” for the upcoming format. She said BOOM!
Our date with Destiny: Tuesday Destiny dropped and people are well on their way to maxing their alt at level 20. Activision are claiming the crown as the highest pre-ordered and highest selling digital release in console history. Time and numbers will see if that bears out but if the state of the first day’s servers have anything to say about it then they are probably right. Several players have complained about stability issues over the first couple of days and while that appears to have settled down players continue to have problems with network security on college campuses interfering with their connection.
Bungie continues to work to relieve this issue.
Bungie also took the time to highlight Paul McCartney’s contribution to the game and how the score (which at times sounds like moments ripped out of Doom) was created in collaboration with a team of composers and musicians and Maccers did it for the joy of bringing his band on the run to a new generation.
Finally the first event started this weekend, 3 vs 3 control sessions in the Crucible. You and your team of three com padres take control of relics and the team with the most points gets sweet sweet salvage loot at the end of the session. So the question is, does the cartridge stink as much as the game: Former myth now fact ET The Video Game cartridges dug up by Microsoft’s now defunct entertainment division as part of a documentary series will go on sale to museums as an auction sale. Now, first given these were in the bottom of a landfill in New Mexico since 1982 and they are arguably one of the most terrible video games ever (and I include Muscle March in that equation) why gaming would want this to be in museums is beyond me. Holy Turtle Wax Batman: Dusty pictures of the new Batmobile leaked this week only to have Zack Snyder release his own “more impressive” pictures. Honestly, I like the dusty ones better. It’s obviously the same vehicle but played down the giant gun on the front of the car aspect. (Source Polygon and Yahoo Movies)
