I can't lie, I love Family Guy. I have seen all the seasons available on Canadian Netflix. I like it more than The Simpsons (just my opinion, no fire bombing my house please). I saw advertisements for a mobile Family Guy game and, I'll be honest, I was very critical. With some hesitation, I downloaded it from the Play Store. Someone has to try it, might as well be me!
Basically, you get to create your own Quahog! Placing buildings and roads where you want. The characters are voiced by their original actors and guest actors participate in special events. Currently, Quahog ComicCon International is on with special guests such as Patrick Stewart (they let me record this in sweatpants), Ron Perlman (that Hellboy guy), Bryan Cranston and Stan Lee!
And so we come to the drawbacks. Despite being free to download, this game is determined to get you to spend your actual money. All the quests take between one hour and 24 hours. Building or clearing an area takes hours. Buildings and decorations cost coins. A lot of buildings and special decorations cost golden clams, which take forever to accumulate. You can speed all of this up by using coins and clams, all of which cost money and not just a small amount. The "best deal" for coins or clams (not for both, one or the other) is $108.94. A over a hundred dollars. Real money. I hate that. Stupid in-app-purchases.
The game is fun. It's funny. Unfortunately it has a few drawbacks. Unless you want to spend a lot of money to finish tasks and quests quickly, it has a small window of playability each day. It can be a little frustrating. Probably why people spend real money on the game.
- Get sense of humour
- Fun environment
- Awesome special guests (Patrick Stewart <3)
- Low playability during each day (unless you spend
- The game tries to get you to spend money, a lot.
