“Have you ever loved someone who was so beautiful and pure, you couldn't bear to show them your own darkness?” Really think about it...letting someone into your world, past your carefully laid out security, past the lovely red bricked wall you careful constructed around your world. Letting someone see the real you, not the one we show to our parents, work colleagues but real guts, gory and screwed up you. It’s quite the bold step I think, in any realm.
There are a wide variety of modern guns paired with The Darkness’ special gifts. The Darkness powers include bringing forth imp like creatures (Darklings) that can attack your enemies, wielding tentacles to break down walls impale your enemies, sneaking around and taking your foes at a distance. Later on you can choose guns that channel these dark powers as well and my personal favorite, creating a swirling black hole that sucks anything near into its murky innards. There is a drawback to these talents as they can only be used in darkness, so feel free to shoot out any light sources about the game. These powers can be leveled up by letting The Darkness snack on the hearts of your victims.
The music is dark and brooding perfect for exploring someone’s skeleton closet and kicking some serious booty.
You will have temper your reaction to the boxy appearance of the characters and considering it was released in 2007, I think it’s decent. The checkpoints seem to be a bit far apart and you may experience trouble that forces you to replay the mission over again, which is a bit annoying. Some of the guns can be a bit under powered but aiming for the heads of your targets solves that issue. I wasn’t a fan of the mutliplayer that accompanies this game but you should check it out and make your own opinion.
I am not going to give you much of the story as I hate it when the plot is laid before me like a Dead Fish in a review. You really need to get your hands dirty and explore this game. I would say that gamers that love a good First Person Shooter should pick up this game and because it’s a bit older you should be able to pick it up for a decent price.
- Wicked sound track
- Solid gameplay
- Interesting plot turn
- Boxy characters
- Checkpoints bit far apart
