The After Action Report: At what age did you start to take an interest in art?
Christian Venson: I believe I was 8. I remember it happened in fourth grade.
TAAR: Oh? Was there something specific that happened in the fourth grade?
CV: I met my best friend. He was a big inspiration in all my art. We used to draw Dragon Ball Z characters during class.
TAAR: Do you have a favourite medium, pencils and paper, computer, etc?
CV: I love using the traditional pencil to paper. I also like going over pencils with Photoshop adding inks and some color. Recently I've been trying to train myself to erase less and trust my instincts using a ball point pen.
TAAR: Now, as I know you, I know you are fond of video games, comics and animation. Has one of these things been a bigger influence on you?
CV: That's an excellent question. I think I take the most influence from comics thinks to the styles in which their told. Animation though has definitely been a huge influence. Without Bruce Timm and his animated Batman series I wouldn't be the same.
TAAR: I've seen some of your cosplay outfits, they rock! When did you start doing cosplay and do you make the outfits yourself?
CV: I started cosplaying about 2 years ago. It's something I've always wanted to do but I never had the guts. Finally a buddy of mine convince me that it was the right move to make. I started with the Joker and work my way up into the arrow. I only make pieces and props for my costume so I buy the rest from various places.
TAAR: What do you want from the future and your art?
CV: I want to work on comics and children's books. I want to be a part of a team the creates and releases art to the masses. I think the pipe dream is to see at least one of my stories go to animation.
TAAR: Thank you so much for taking the time to talk to me! I an excited to see what you produce in the future!Christian is a multi-medium artist. Check him out on Instagram, aboveabat335, and Tumblr, aboveabat.
